I feel that myspace, facebook, twitter, etc. are detrimental to our communication as a society. There are way to many available public forums to voice an opinion on a whim without thinking of the consequences associated with it. I see no positive impact that these forums are making and ultimately find people being much more inverted as a result of it. People often don't take advantage of opportunities in the classroom to voice their opinion, for example, but have no problem verbally abusing another persons standpoint from behind a keyboard. I find this to be a sad result of over-accessibility to instant communication. People have become more comfortable communicating in these forms and less apt to communicate person to person. This is why I for one take a stand against these venues in order to keep myself distant from this possibility. I prefer communication with real people who I can see with my own eyes. On the post-modernist end I do see that people should have the right to participate in these forums and I wish them all the best and support their right to choose. I just see a large majority of the information shared to be clearly trivial as opposed to public forums such as classroom debates and social settings where real communication takes place.
I have to completely agree with you on this one Phil. There are various forums in which to speak publically that are not so detrimental to our society like facebook and the such. I just wish people would adhere to more of the less detrimental ones like you are describing especially the younger generation like us.
