Twitter is the most useless thing ever invented. As it really has no purpose but to text what you are doing in 2 sentences at a time. It is not like Facebook where you have more substance to it. I have found that most all of my friends that use Twitter usually post, “I’m in the bathroom.” or “I just farted.” What’s the point in that? It does nothing to broaden the public sphere or help others communicate. It’s more of a big brother application or website than anything. With Facebook and Myspace you can have a more in depth post with photos, text, and references to links. Just like a blog, Facebook is more like having a conversation, while Twitter is like someone driving by in a speeding car yelling “I’m about to go eat my ‘breakfast cereal’.” (Johnson)

We could also say that the site is nothing more than a cry for attention and the “desire for status.” (Reiss & Wilz) In the article Why America Loves Reality Tv, it simply states that “One aspect that all of the reality TV shows had in common was their competitive nature.” Something in common between Twitter and reality television shows is the want and need to be in front of the camera and now also the home computer screen. Is this what we all want, people knowing our every move and every step, even if it means giving up our most intimate and private moments for the world to see?
